Plush Felt Heart Embroidery Project - by Jennifer Priest for Kunin Group 2

Supplies:

  • One 9”x 12” Sheet of Kunin Printzfelt or Classicfelt (Valentine colors – any heart pattern + solids in pink, white, red, turquoise, or lavender)
  • One 6”x 6” piece of Classicfelt or Printzfelt (Valentine colors – any heart pattern + solids in pink, white, red, turquoise, or lavender)
  • One Wood embroidery hoop –  6”
  • Needle
  • Embroidery floss (pink, white, black, or red)
  • Sizzix Big Shot Machine  with Heart shaped die
  • Westcott Scissors
  • 4 cotton balls or assorted scraps of felt
  • Stick pins

Assembly:

  1. Open the embroidery hoop to the largest setting possible. Place a sheet of Printz felt between the two hoops and tighten. Trim the felt from the back of the hoops.
  2. Using the Sizzix die cutting system, die cut a heart shape from a 6” x 6” piece of felt.
  3. Pin the heart shape to the felt in the embroidery hoop, centering it. The top of the hoop with act as the “hanger” for the embroidery hoop so keep this in mind while centering the heart shape.
    Insert Hoop Photo with needle
  4. Thread the needle with embroidery floss. Stitch around ¾ of the perimeter of the heart, 1/8” from the edge of the shape, with 1/4” long stitches.
  5. Tear apart the cotton balls to soften them. Insert them into the space between the heart and the felt backing to “stuff” the heart.  Continue stitching to close the heart, tying off the thread on the back with a knot.
  6. Use a lint roller or packing tape to remove any lint left from the cotton balls. Add a ribbon bow to the top of the embroidery hoop if desired. Hang and enjoy!
