When my daughter was little, I stumbled onto the idea of making a crayon caddy so she could take her crayons out with her and it was a life saver! Not only did my daughter keep busy with her crayons, the unrolled caddy, with pockets for her crayons meant I wouldn’t have to spend time diving under restaurant tables to fetch crayons that kept rolling off. I mean, have you seen what is under those tables?
Once I discovered the life changing magic of crayon caddies, I made them for every child’s birthday for a few years. I can’t tell you how many mothers called to thank me for the gift.
1. Pin the pocket piece to the inside piece of felt. Then mark 1” lines along the bottom. Sew 1 inch pockets along the entire piece. Remove pins.
2. Pin the back and front pieces together, wrong sides facing. Fold the ribbon in half and tuck it between the layers (with the folded end tucked in the sandwich). Pin in place.
3. Stitch a 1/4” around the entire piece.
4. Trim as necessary. Place crayons into pockets, roll it up, and tie closed with the ribbon.
