Hi all! It’s Laura Bray here! Here’s a great little gift for your favorite sewist. Awhile back, I showed you how to make tea cup and donut pincushions from soda pop bottle caps. Today, I’m using a similar technique to create mini-cupcake pincushions.

    Supplies:

    • Soda cap from a plastic soda bottle. Washed and dried.
    • 9″ x 12″ craft cuts of Kunin Classicfelt™ in pink and white
    • Stuffing
    • Basic sewing & embroidery supplies
    • Craft glue

    Instructions:

    1. Cut a strip of pink felt, measuring ¾” x 4 ½”. You can add decorative embroidery to the strip if you desire. Glue it onto your bottle cap. Then stitch the ends together.

    2. Cut a 3” circle of white felt. Stitch embroidered details onto the cupcake frosting. For example, use French Knots or Straight Stitches for sprinkles.

    3. Stitch a running stitch around the edge of the circle, then pull the ends gently. Before completely closing the circle, put some stuffing into it. Pull it completely closed and knot it. Dap some glue on the end and gently push into the bottle cap.

I think you will find these cupcakes both easy and addictive to make. They make great gifts as is, or you can also glue a magnet to the bottom so they can perch on a sewing machine. You can even glue them onto a ring blank for a unique gift for your favorite sewist.

You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin Eco-fi Classicfelt; Eco-fiPlus™ Premiumfelt and ShaggiChic non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.

    Happy Stitching!
