These first aid kits are a great project for scouts to create. They help them learn a little about first aid and what components make a kit. They also allow the girls to access their creativity and have a personal touch in the finished case full of supplies. This project would be a great one to do as a troop after a collection drive for the supplies. The girls can make the kits and then donate them to a local shelter to give to families in need.
To get started, you will need the following items.
Cut a piece of felt to fit the bottom of your pencil box and glue it in. Stitch some small “bags” to put supplies in so they will stay organized in the kit.
Put your items into the pencil box and close it.
To make it tight, stitch a little piece of elastic in the back.
If your scouts are teaching younger girls about first aid, they can create mini bags with adhesive bandages, first aid cream and antiseptic wipes tied together with gauze them embellished with felt hearts. These would be darling at a safety training or event.
Scouting offers so many opportunities for girls to learn and grow and give back. This little projects helps them learn to work as a group to collect the necessary items and turn them in to a way to help the community.
You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin Eco-fi Classicfelt; Eco-fiPlus™ Premiumfelt and ShaggiChic non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.
