• Cocoa Loco Ornament

    By Laura Bray

Every year, I make my daughter, nieces, and nephew a new felt ornament for their holiday tree. I present it to them on Thanksgiving Day so that they can display the new ornament for the upcoming holiday season. Last year, I showed you how to make Ugly Christmas Sweater Ornaments. This year, the theme is cocoa. I’m loco (crazy) for cocoa! Aren’t you?

Because I was making these cute ornaments for children, made the marshmallows removable because who doesn’t love an interactive ornament? How many marshmallows do you add to your cocoa?

Here’s how to make my Cocoa Loco Ornaments:

    Supplies:

    • 9″ x 12″ craft cuts of Kunin Classicfelt™: Cashmere Tan & Cream
    • 12” x 18” craft cuts of Kunin Premiumfelt™: Lagoon,
    • Laura Bray’s Cocoa Loco Ornament Pattern PDF: Cocoa Loco Pattern
    • Red and white baker’s twine
    • Sequins
    • Embroidery supplies
    • Poly-fil® Fiberfill

    Instructions:

    1. Cut out pieces from the pattern as follows:

    a. Cup pieces from Lagoon felt
    b. Cocoa piece from Cashmere Tan felt
    c. Marshmallows from Cream felt

    2. To sew marshmallows, stitch the eyes and smile onto one piece of the marshmallow shape. Then sew a blank one to the one with a face. Stitch around the three sides with a blanket stitch, stuff the marshmallow with fiberfill, and then finish stitching. Set marshmallows aside.

    3. Draw a snowflake design onto the front cup piece with a light pencil. Embroider over the sketch, using white embroidery floss. I used a backstitch. Glue or stitch sequins onto the design to make it sparkle!

    4. Glue the cocoa piece to the top of the cup’s back piece. You don’t want to stitch it on or there will be stitch marks showing through the back of your ornament.

    5. Stitch the top and back cup pieces together leaving the cup opening unstitched. This will form the pocket where you can tuck the marshmallows into the cup. So cute!

    6. Run baker’s twine through top corner of the cup and tie for the hanger.

You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin® ClassicfeltKunin® Premiumfelt and ShaggiChic non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.
